If you live in America, you realize how people look stressed despite the abundance of wealth around us. There are many medical benefits of meditation, but first we need to examine what exactly is this practice of sitting quietly for just a few minutes. Even if you’re new and seeking how to meditate for beginners, the listed tips will get you moving in the right direction.

What Is Meditation?

Everyone will have a different answer, but this sums it all up. Meditation is a way to achieve calmness of the body and conscious mind so that the subconscious mind can rule. When you’re truly relaxed, you’ll feel and see the real meaning of life.

Proper meditation techniques will help you reduce stress, cure depression woes, increase your blood flow, power-up your immune system, and assist you to get rid of unwanted addictions. The average meditation time is just 15 minutes, but as you get more proficient with the spiritual practice you’ll find yourself spending an hour or two.

While some organized religion have tried to bring this practice into their prayer session, you don’t have to be religious to get awesome results.

How to Meditate for Beginners

Meditation in the beginning can be weird and uneventful. This is especially true if you live a stressful life and cannot take a moment of quiet for yourself. Here are some of the steps to get you proficient in this ancient practice:

Step 1 – Set aside at least 15 to 20 minutes of quiet time. Turn off the phones and put a do not disturb sign on the door. If you live in a busy household you might want to do these beginning steps, early in the morning before anyone else wakes up. Doing meditation early in the morning to start your day is a great way to have a fantastic day.

Step 2 – Seat in a comfortable chair, back straight up and slowly take slow deep breaths. If you’re doing this in the evening, you should lay down as this will help you get a good night’s rest.

Step 3 – You need to learn to breathe properly. When you breathe the oxygen should go directly into your stomach instead of your chest. That means each breath you take will make your stomach rise up, and when you breath out it will go down.

Direct the air into your stomach and just hold it for as long as you can, while exhaling slowing. At this stage, all you’re doing is just focusing on the breath. Do this 10 to 20 times. Each one will relax you!

Step 4 – The next step is to relax your body down with subtle commands. As your take, a deep breath just imagines that your toes, your feet, and your legs are totally relaxing down. You can say it to yourself quietly or you can imagine it.

Do the same for other parts of your body. You also need to relax your thighs, your buttocks, your stomach, your back, your shoulders, your neck, your facial muscles, and your head.

Better to command each one to relax down as you breathe out. So with each breath, you focus on one body part, until you’ve relaxed all of them. In the beginning, you might not feel anything, but regular practice will soon prove beneficial to your meditation steps.

Step 5 – When you’re totally relaxed, just focus on your breathing which should be deep, slow and steady. Just watch the breath and try not to think about the issues of the day.

Your mind is a wandering puppy, due to years of conditioning from watching television shows and programs. You need to silence the conscious mind and let the inner mind arise and help your life get better.

Step 6 – In the beginning you’ll hear different sounds, which is because you’re more in tune with nature with your relaxation. All around us are vibrations we cannot perceive due to all the “bad” things we do on a daily basis. Television shows, poor dieting, digital devices are some of the things that contribute to our mind sickness.

Medical Benefits of Meditation

All the sickness you see in yourself originated from your mind. Hard to believe but it’s true! Every disease that has attacked your body is as a result of what occurred in your mind.

You created it and welcomed it into your life through your actions and wishes. You might consider it foolish, for no one wishes they get sick, but that is what we do on a daily basis.

Just, for example, we all know that drinking alcohol is bad for the body, why then do most people do it? Might it be because they’ve been conditioned to relate drinking with having fun?

What do you think will happen once you start drinking, good health? So you see, your actions determine what will happen to you, and the initial acceptance of the action originates from the mind.

Your mind is the gateway to your health, and you need to keep your guard up at all times. Just because most people do something, does not make it right.

With constant meditation, you’ll be able to see the truth in what was just said, and chart your own course of healthy options in life. Here are some of the health benefits that results from daily meditation:

Stress Reduction

When you can relax your body down at will, you’ll not be stressed anymore. Stress occurs when you let daily activities intrude into your life space. Good meditation techniques for stress reduction will let you see things for what they really are.

You’ll soon learn to deal with what’s possible, and let the universe help you with what you consider impossible. Constant worry about the daily grind is what creates stress. With constant meditation, you’ll soon be able to relax, letting go of all your fears. When you do that, untold abundance will flow your way.

Free of Addiction

Addiction comes in many different forms and I will try to look closely at some of the most popular ones.

Addiction to Food – Do you know what the body is comprised of? Most so-called experts would agree our body is made up of about 60% to 70% water.

Okay, what is oxygen that we breathe in comprised of? It has a significant amount of water. So just by breathing you can feed your body nutrients, especially if you’re breathing clean air that’s not toxic.

When you breathe deeply and meditate, you get in tune with nature and your desire for certain foods will wane over time. Animals are just as close to humans as can be, eating them only creates problems in the long run. If you’re truthful to yourself, you’ll notice how you eat just because you feel like it, not because you’re hungry.

This is the primary reason we have an obesity problem in America today. Most people are using genetically modified food to ease the pain of life. Daily meditation will help you get your diet right.

You should be eating more alkaline foods such as green vegetables, natural fruits, and nuts. As you go deeper into your meditation practice, you’ll notice a change in what and how you eat.

Addiction to Alcohol – As a former drinker, I couldn’t tell you why I did it. I was with friends, they all ordered alcohol and I just did the same. We all know drinking, not matter how small will eventually cause health problems. Over time, most of us have been conditioned to equate drinking alcohol with having fun.

You see it in the movies, on television shows, and your brain gets with the program that drinking is actually cool. But nothing could be further from the truth. Alcohol-related deaths is way more than all the other addiction deaths combined. With daily meditation techniques, your desire for booze will wane over time.

Drinking compromises your ability to be in charge of your actions while meditation makes you into someone that’s in charge. After drinking, it’s very difficult to relax the body down. So use meditation to limit or eliminate your need for alcohol in your system.

Lower Blood Pressure – It is a fact that when you’re less stressed, your blood pressure is lowered to the best level. Daily stress causes spikes in our blood pressure, and that can lead to early or untimely death. This is one of the first benefit you’ll derive from meditating on a regular basis.

Less Stress – With daily meditation, your life will be in balance with nature, and your stress level will become normal again. You’ll start to see things in their proper perspective, and your worrying days will be over. Use some of the meditation techniques for stress reduction to get your life back to balance. As a side benefit, you’ll get to see your doctor less often, which is a good thing.

Increased Concentration – Your focus on what is important in your life will spike to genius level. You’ll find motivation to get work done quickly, and most efficiently.

Daily meditation will allow you to focus on what needs to be done, and ideas to accomplish your goals will flood into you like never before. Your creativity and will to come up with perfect solutions will be enhanced.

It will slow Aging – Before you begin your meditation routine, please take a picture of yourself and file it away. Look at the same picture in about three to four months’ time, and witness the difference in age. Instead of aging, you’ll actually be getting younger in body, mind and spirit.

Too much food ages you, drinking alcohol ages you, stress ages you, and with daily meditation all those activities are gone from your life. I guarantee that in just one year, people you know will think you’re a new youthful person.

Improves your Immune System – With those junks gone from your internal body organs, your immune system will be back to functioning the way it was designed to do. Daily meditation will give you the strength to withstand most infectious diseases.

How to get the benefits

To realize all the health benefits associated with meditation, you’ll have to practice every day. The 15 to 20 minutes you spend at the beginning of your daily activities will pay tremendous dividends within a very short time.

Meditation is more like planting a seed. You nurture it daily with more meditation and before you know it, your life is blooming like it never did before. If you cannot find just a few minutes to be by yourself and reflect and meditate, then you’re in far worse shape than you know.

The only person responsible for your well-being is you, and unless you take action now to meditate, those health-related woes might just be knocking on your door steps before you know it.
