The personnel who make up Austin-Travis County EMS are our most important and most precious resource. ATCEMS works diligently to find people who will fit well into the department, and who will improve our team. Our next priority is to ensure that we develop our personnel throughout their careers, allowing them to not only meet their own expectations and potential, but – more importantly – the expectations of the community. This requires that we work with employees to identify and meet their needs; acknowledge and celebrate the service they provide; and ensure that each and every person works in a safe and healthy environment. 
After a review and analysis of what both the employees' and organization's needs were, we developed a new position in our Operations, Communications, and Professional Practice and Standards divisions—EMS Clinical Specialist. Duties of this position include entry-level supervision, training and clinical performance management.
One of the many ways Austin-Travis County EMS provides the citizens of Austin and Travis County superior pre-hospital care is through ensuring that our medics are up-to-date on the newest and best medical procedures available. 
Austin-Travis County EMS recognized employee achievement in multiple ways through the City Manager’s Office and the ATCEMS Rewards and Recognition Program. In the latter program, twenty employees were recognized for accomplishments that reflected outstanding effort, going above-and-beyond normal job duties, or outstanding customer service. 
ATCEMS is committed to providing the highest quality care to our community. That promise starts from the moment each medic puts on their uniform for the first time. Every new paramedic must successfully complete a demanding training course before they can work by themselves. 
ATCEMS routinely hosts national standard training courses for leadership and training staff. Example is the Texas Engineering Extension Service of Texas A&M University (TEEX) three level EMS Leadership Academy and the National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) Instructor Course. 
ATCEMS recognizes the organization has no greater responsibility than the safety of both its patients and caregivers. This year the total number of injuries declined for the forth year in a row despite an increase in the number of responses and hours worked.
