On Thursday July 22, a group of eight ATCEMS paramedics will participate in DMR Training, that is Disaster Mobile Relief Training, where they will gain hands-on experience erecting two pop-up mobile shelters including AC and heat, hot water, portable generators, emergency lighting, and bedding necessary to activate a triage system, a mobile hospital, or a hazardous materials decontamination site.

In 2007, the Texas Senate produced SB 11 to provide for training and mobilization of local resources to be used statewide in the event of man-made or natural disaster. TIFMAS, or Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System, is maintained by the Texas Forest Service, with activations approved by the Governor's Office. The TIFMAS program was first used as a response to Hurricane Ike, a wildfire outbreak in North Texas and most recently during Hurricane Alex.

Austin-Travis County EMS has 30 Paramedics and Command Staff trained and "on-call" in the event of a disaster anywhere in Texas. Equipped with a specially outfitted trailer, ATCEMS can respond to most any location and rapidly set up to allow themselves to be mostly self-sufficient including shelter housing, MRE's, water, and large quantities of medical equipment and soft goods.
