Alcoholism is a dreadful disease, which most sufferers try to deny until it is sometimes too late. I gave up drinking many years ago, so I have a bias and truthful opinion about the poisonous substance.
Alcohol is a well know intoxicant, and any perceived benefits cannot even compare to the massive health risks. At a minimum, alcohol consumption is a toxic substance that will do grave damage to your liver.
Every drink you ingest into your body will compromise your decision-making ability. Using my life as a perfect example, every bad decision I made in the past occurred when I was under the influence of the poison.
Some might falsely believe that you have more fun once you’ve had a few drinks, but nothing could be further from the truth.
While this article is about alcohol withdrawal symptoms, it is also appropriate to know about the damages done by the popular intoxicant to the human body.
What exactly is Alcohol Withdrawal Symptom?
The withdrawal symptoms of alcohol occur when an individual stops or drastically reduces the amount of alcoholic drinks consumed on a daily basis.
Symptoms of alcohol withdrawal will manifest itself in many different ways. The withdrawal symptoms might begin in as little as two hours after your last drink.
Once you’ve conditioned your body to accept alcohol as part of your daily nutrient, it will react in various ways when you stop giving it what it wants.
Initially, you might experience shakiness and mild anxiety, depending on how long you’ve being hooked on that substance.
For more permanent addiction to alcohol, withdrawal might lead to more serious conditions like hallucinations, seizures, irregular heartbeats, and mental confusion.
If you’re a heavy drinker, and the alcohol withdrawal symptoms seem life threatening, you’d better call 911 or go to the emergency room for a proper medical checkup.
Based on all the available health data, moderate to excessive drinking of alcohol will excite your nervous system.
Each drink conditions your body to become dependent on alcohol, up to the point that it now needs the ingredients in the alcohol to carry out some bodily functions.
The anxiety, heart rate changes and insomnia can be directly traced to your nervous system adjusting to life without alcohol.
The severity of your alcohol withdrawal symptoms can also be traced to the neurotransmitters in your brain.
They help transmit messages, and sudden changes in the substance you ingest on a daily basis will lead to some painful adjustment periods.
Your ability to remain calm and relaxed will be affected on a temporary basis, once you reduce or eliminate alcohol consumption.
Withdrawal Symptoms from Alcohol
Here are some of the symptoms one might experience once you decide to stop consuming the deadly poison on a daily basis.
Tremors – These are commonly called shakes, due to the overall shaking of the body. It is probably the first stage of alcohol withdrawal and will commence 8 to 12 hours after your last drink.
The trembling will eventually subside after 24 hours, provided you stay strong and resist the temptation to consume more alcohol.
Anxiety – This is probably the most difficult alcohol withdrawal symptom to control. It can come at you from different angles, and might manifest itself in many different ways.
Anxiety can be accompanied by restlessness, fear, boredoms, and feelings of hopelessness. You have to stay strong and find other meaningful activities to occupy your time.
Vomiting or Nausea – This symptom might depend on the severity of the addiction. Nausea and vomiting should subside within a few hours.
Headache – An intense headache might come during the first few hours of not drinking or later on. Again, the severity of this alcohol withdrawal symptom varies from person to person. From my experience, it subsided after getting a good amount of restful sleep.
Increased Heart Rate – Once you curtail or stop drinking, you might experience elevated heart rate. The pounding sensation might scare some people to think they are having a heart attack.
The increased heart rate will only last a few hours, but you should seek immediate medical attention if it persists longer.
Sweating – If one of your alcohol withdrawal symptoms is too much sweating, consider yourself lucky, as that will help eliminate the substance faster from your internal organs.
You should know that sweating is one of the most effective ways to eliminate toxins from your internal organs.
Irritability – this is one symptom that would probably strike those trying to quit alcohol the hardest.
This can be traced to your body going through some difficult changes, and you might be tempted to take your frustrations out on people around you. This will subside if you find meaningful activities to occupy your time.
Confusion – This symptom might be exaggerated a little bit. Yes, you might find it hard to identify the coping mechanisms you’ve built up to support the alcohol addiction.
The confusion will be gone once you start living life without the need for drinking alcohol beverages.
There might be other withdrawal symptoms once you decide to stop drinking alcohol.
The first few days are the hardest, but your steadfastness to remain alcohol-free will be rewarded with a better overall body health.
Tips to Stay Sober and Get Your Life Back on Track
Drinking might be socially acceptable but you have to decide if ingesting the poison is beneficial to your overall health.
If you feel compelled to drink because others are doing it, then you need to grow the fortitude exhibited by most successful people.
I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with going your own way, especially if you know it is the right decision.
For example, I hate tattoos despite all my friends having one or two on their body.
Based on my research, I found out the ink used can poison the skin. While I do not judge, the social pressure to conform does not have any effect on me.
Here are some tips you can use to stay strong and alcohol free:
Make New Friends
Contrary to what some might think, people with the same addiction patterns do tend to flock together. If most of your friends drink on a regular basis, you might be tempted to join them.
If you just quit or you’re trying to reduce your alcohol consumption, having drinkers all around you will not help.
There are millions of people that do not drink or drink very little, and you just have to find and befriend them.
For me, I isolated myself for the first thirty days until my fortitude to say no became iron-clad.
Using isolation to get stronger in order to resist the coming social pressure does have some advantages and disadvantages based on your personality.
Remove all the Old Alcoholic Beverages
If you keep a few bottles of your favorite alcoholic beverages at home, the temptation to drink again will be just too much to resist.
For me, I called few friends over to my place and served them all my favorite drinks. The gathering was a blast, and most did not even notice I was not drinking any of the alcoholic beverages been served.
The few remaining drinks I poured into the sink as a sign of my total freedom from the shackles of that poison.
I have stayed true to my non-drinking status for many years now, and my overall health is just pure dynamite!
Drink More Water
I used to wash down all my meals with a beer or wine, but now I only drink water. Our human body is mostly composed of water, and drinking more of it will only help you feel much better.
Even the tap water with some impurities is still far better than any alcoholic beverage any day. Water will help you eliminate toxins from your internally organs much faster.
Most people drink to occupy their time. When you institute a rigorous workout schedule, your desire and need for alcohol will subside.
I enjoy bike riding on my beach cruiser bike, and I always feel better after each session.
Contrary to what some might think, only popping diet pills will not help you lose weight. Join a gym or build your own gym at home, to get all the benefits from working out on a regular basis.
Key Benefits When You Stop Drinking
Better Sex Life – I can assure you that your sex life will significantly improve when you stop drinking. Since the alcohol is no more in charge of your libido, the anxiety to perform will not be present.
Your calm and loving demeanor will eventually turn you into a better lover.

Remember that whatever you consume will eventually show up on your skin. Better and glowing skin can be yours, if you reduce or eliminate this poisonous substance from your internal organs.
Before you can experience any alcohol withdrawal symptoms, you must first decide to stop or reduce your intake of the poisonous substance.
